International Airport of Delhi, better known as Indira Gandhi International Airport, is located 24 kilometers south of New Delhi. It is a two-terminal airport with major Airlines from across the world having flights landing to and taking off from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Out of the two terminals, one of them is the Domestic Terminal some 3 kilometers away from the International Terminal.
Infrastructure :
Facilities at Delhi Airport
There is a free bus service at every 30 minutes from one terminal to another. Both the terminals are equipped with contemporary facilities like seating room, resting room, banks, restaurants, cafes, Internet facilities, bureaux de change and duty free shopping area. However, one should be prepared to face slight hassles at the airport before you board the flight. You will locate ATMs at Terminal 1A (Domestic) and the visitors arrival area of International Terminal. There is also a bus service provided by the Airports Authority under which buses leave for Central Delhi all through the day as well as the night.
Besides the luxury and hospitality at the Delhi Airport, there exist some hurdles that are common envisaging flight schedules and security concerns. You may have to stand at length in queues to go through strict security checks. Custom officers are normally very warm and polite except a few who can be rude that too on rare occasions.
Car Rentals and Taxis
Cabs and taxis are available for hire on the Delhi Airport itself once you arrive here. You also have the option of car rental at the airport if you want to avoid the hassles associated with hiring a taxi. However, self driven cars are not recommended due to the chaotic traffic condition prevalent in the city. Foremost car rental service agencies such as Avis and Hertz operate from the airport. Parking facilities existing within the annexes of both the terminals are ample to accommodate all cars and other vehicles arriving at the airport.
However, if you prefer a taxi then it is better to go for the pre-paid taxi service at the airport. This would ensure that you are charged with valid fare and taxi operators can't ask you for extra money thereby relieving you from unwanted miff.
